Theme speaker: Rt. Rev. William J. Hockin, Bishop of Fredericton
53rd Weekend is excited to welcome Bishop Hockin home! Prior to his appointment as Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton (1996) and subsequent election as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Fredericton (1998) and prior to his ministry to the people of Toronto (1986 - 1996) the then Rev. Hockin served in the Diocese of Huron (1962-1986).
Bishop Hockin is well known for the three books he has penned during his very successful ministry titled "God for a Monday Morning" (1987), "Twelve Stories You and Your Children Need to Know" (1994) and "The Habit of Hope" (2001). His second book lays the groundwork for the children's program at this year's 53rd Weekend.
A compelling storyteller, Bishop Hockin will work around his theme "Tales of an Extravagant God"as he addresses this gathering in May.
In his leisure time Bill shares his love of cross-country skiing, walking, golf and gardening with his wife Isabelle and whenever possible with his grown children, who live in Toronto. Bishop Hockin is thrilled to be returning to the Diocese of Huron to address 53rd Weekend before he retires in October of this year.
Circle of Friends in Concert -- Saturday Evening
Circle of Friends gathered for the first time in September of 1997. The first song they learned in harmony was Rich Mullin's "Awesome God". Since that day, their time together in fellowship, practice, performance and prayer is helping them to discern God's call to bring love and peace to others through their gift of music.
Circle Of Friends first public appearance took place at London's White Oaks Mall, in December of 1997. Since that time, the girls have shared their music with people at more than 500 events in over 50 cities throughout Ontario.
Carlene, Kiera, & Lorraine have a great deal in common... they were all born in 1986, and they have grown up as friends since the age of 5. These girls, however, all contribute very unique gifts of energy, enthusiasm, and creativity to make the Circle of Friends much more than just a music group. They have really evolved into a wonderful circle of friends. The most special gift that each member does possess, is the willingness to allow God to work through their music to bring messages of love and peace to all who will listen. Their goal now is the same as it was in the beginning... keep God at the centre of their talents, and be the best people they can be.
Register for 53rd Weekend 2003 and enjoy Circle of Friends in concert! Prepare to be inspired!
